Dr Andrew MacGill is a skin cancer expert trained in dermoscopy and advanced cutaneous surgical techniques. He is covered by most insurance companies and is an affiliated provider for Southern Cross. Over the past 23 years he has diagnosed and removed hundreds of malignant melanomas and managed numerous other cutaneous malignancies.
Andrew gained postgraduate qualifications by participating and studying in the advanced dermoscopy immersion course at the Graz University in Austria – focusing on chaos and clues and modified pattern analysis. He has also undergone additional training in cutaneous surgery here in New Zealand and in San Diego. He is highly experienced and meticulous with all forms of cutaneous surgery and has been using complex flaps and full thickness grafts for many years.
Andrew is the co-founder of the Rodney Surgical Centre in Warkworth and presents at many medical conferences here in New Zealand as well as overseas. He is on the executive Board of the New Zealand Skin Doctor’s Society and is a regular contributor to the International Dermoscopy Society Discussion Forum.
He thoroughly enjoys his work and his patients sense this from his enthusiasm and warmth. Andrew takes pride in removing lesions with minimal discomfort and makes every effort to ensure the best possible cosmetic outcome. Patients often comment on his warm and friendly manner when helping patients feel at ease. His philosophy is that the greatest reward in medicine is the ongoing relationship with patients from all walks of life.
Andrew comes from a long line of medical professionals; his great-grandfather, grandfather (plus two of his grandfather’s brothers) and father were all GPs. His son Sam is currently working as a Plastics registrar at Wellington Hospital.
